Accra-Tema Beach Road Expansion Project: Govt pays GH¢3.6m in compensations

The government has paid 3.6 million gigahertz compensation to those affected by the first phase of the AccraTemaBeachRoad expansion project. The China Guns International Economic and Technical Cooperation Corporation (CGICETC), the contractor for the
the project has revealed that the compensation includes buildings and other structures demolished for the project.
Payments were made to 36 people in two tranches, each receiving 4,160 GH to 429, 100 GH. The first tranche of
GH ¢ 2.35 million was paid to 16 landowners and the second tranche of GH ¢ 1.31 million was paid to 20 landowners.
The completion of the project, originally scheduled for December of this year, has been postponed to April 2023. Tracy Tao, the administrator of the
project contractor, said the delay was due to several issues related to the laying of utility lines and the demolition of buildings on the construction route.

She said these included the movement of some power lines and water pipes and the removal of some underground tanks from some gas stations along the route.
Tao said the removal of the two gas stations along the route still requires some compensation.
She said the construction company is waiting for payments and vacant seat permits to remove the gas station.
Work in progress
Single-lane roads are now being formed as dual-lane roads.
Work in progress includes bridge construction and other rescue work at Tessie’s ALife Junction.
Construction of the route from Nung Avaria to the railroad crossing near Tema Port is almost completed. The three-stage exchange at

Nung Avaria is also steadily progressing.
Working range
Work on the 16-kilometer project from the Independent Arch of Accra’s Black Star Square to Nungua via Osu, La, and Teshie will be carried out by CGICETC, with the second 10.6-kilometer phase extending from Nungua to the Tema community. Three extensions – processed by China Railway
Major Bridge Engineering Group Company Limited (CRMBEGCL). The
work area includes two-lane and four-lane city roads. Traffic light system and related auxiliary work. The
estimated US $ 100 million 26.6km project will serve as a major alternative route to the Accra-Tema highway.
