Akuffo Addo never accepted ex-gratia when he was an MP – Captain Smart

A renowned journalist popularly known as Captain Smart applauds President Akuffo Addo for rejecting ex-gratia payments when he served as a minister.

In a Twi News In Brief by Ghanaweb TV, the presenter mentions Captain Smart for applauding Mr. Addo for not accepting ex-gratia payments.

She says, “journalist Captain Smart appaluds the president of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo explaining one reason he likes him (Akuffo-Addo)

“When he (Akuffo Addo) was a member of parliament, he never took the ex-gratia payment, be it cars, phones or other things they shared among ministers, Akuffo Addo never took a single one,” she added.

That been said, Togbe Afede XIV, president of the Asogli Traditional Area also rejected a huge sum of money paid to him as ex-gratia.

According to Togbe Afede, he refunded all money to the source or where it came from.

The money he refunded was about GHC360k.

Ex-gratia is a payment or favour made to someone who has fulfilled his or her obligation. It’s neither legal nor illegal.
