Injured Gideon Mensah ruled out of Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar
Ghanaian defender Gideon Mensah will not be able to participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar. The left-back from AJ Auxerre had joined the camp on Monday but was assessed by the medical team, who confirmed a knee injury that he had sustained during the season.
The team’s medical head, Dr. Prince Pambo, stated that Gideon had been carefully managed by his club throughout the season, but upon evaluation at the camp, it was decided to excuse him from the game to prevent further aggravation of the injury. The medical team hopes that Gideon will have sufficient rest during the break to recover in time for the next season.
Gideon Mensah, who made his debut for Ghana in 2019 against South Africa, has previously participated in one Africa Cup of Nations tournament and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana’s preparations for the qualifier will continue at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
