Gershon Fuentes, 27, a man in the US state of Ohio has been charged for raping a 10-year-old girl who had to fly out of the country for an abortion despite state restrictions.
According to Columbus Dispatch, Fuentes confessed to have raped the girl two times. He was charged of felony of first-degree rape. He is in the custody of Franklin County jail on a $2 million bond.
The unnamed girl whose case reached prominent Republicans had to travel to Indiana for abortion. The Democratic President, Joe Biden cited abortion restrictions but people who doubted it questioned if it was joke. “Imagine being that little girl” President Biden said.
Thousands of women and girls have lost their constitutional rights to abortion after the US decision in June.
The girl was six weeks and three days pregnant, and was referred by a child abuse doctor in Ohio to undergo a medical abortion in Indiana on 30 June. Abortion is legal in the neighbouring state though efforts are in progress to restrict abortion access.
Following the Supreme Court ruling, 26 US states have restricted abortion or are anticipated to do so in the coming months.
