Qatar 2022; Early exit for Black Stars

black stars are out of world cup 2022 qatar

The Black Stars of Ghana have suffered another world cup setback as they fail to progress into the knockout phase after they failed to get at least a point from their encounter with Uruguay.

After an opening day 3-2 loss to Portugal, the Black Stars were full of hope and confidence because they played well.

After a fiercely contested game against Korea Republic, the Black Stars saw the same scoreline in the Portugal game but it was in the their favour this time around.

A place in the last 16 was Ghana’s to lose as they needed to win their game against Uruguay or avoid defeat at least, which meant they had depend on the results of the Portugal-Korea clash since they are all in the same group.

However things didn’t seem to go according to plan as Ghana’s captain, Andre Dede Ayew saw his penalty saved in the 21st minute by Sergio Rochet.

The tables quickly turned five minutes later as Uruguay took the lead through Giorgian De Arrascaeta. The lead was doubled 6 minutes later by the same scorer.

This made the task for Ghana even harder as they needed to score two goals to earn a point or three goals to win the match which seemed highly impossible.

After a goaless second half, it meant the Black Stars were sent packing as they sat bottom in the group.
