The South Korean series (Squid Game) took the world by storm after its debut last year. The show broke Netflix streaming records, won numerous historic awards, and propelled its cast to global stardom.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show’s writer and director, writes in a letter to the show’s fans,
“Last year, it took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life.” Squid Game, on the other hand, only took 12 days to become the most popular Netflix series ever.”

However, fans may have to wait a little longer before returning to the games. “Right now, we’re working on the script and shaping the story,” executive producer Kim Ji-Yeon tells Tudum.
“And also, there is definitely a lot of pressure on how to improve Season 2.” I know a lot of different fans and audiences have enjoyed the series, but we’re really trying to figure out how to make it even more enjoyable for everyone.”
Hwang confirms that some familiar faces will return next season, despite the fact that the second season is still in its early stages. Gi-hun, last year’s winner, will return with ‘The Front Man’, as well as a brand new character.
