The failure of the E-levy to meet its revenue target is unsurprising; it vindicates the NDC – Sam George

The MP for Ningo-Prampram Sam George says it is clear to the NDC, the opposition party that the E-levy not meeting its targeted revenue is not a solution to solving Ghana’s economic issues.

The MP said this after the leading Member of Parliament for the NPP ruling party revealed in a social media post on 27th June, 2022.

Gabby Otchere-Darko’s statement showed that the government has made only 10% out of the estimated revenue the tax could give. Which is just Ghc60m of Ghc600m.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, the MP for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency says it does not surprise him at all with the poor performance of the E-levy as revealed by Mr. Otchere-Darko.

“This needed no divine revelation, it was obvious to any critical and objective mind.

“The projections they were making were just untenable. Government said that in 7 months, that is from May to December, it was going to make GH¢4.2 billion of the E-Levy, meaning it was going to make about GH¢600 million every month, meaning it would make an average of GH¢20 million every day.”

“In May, they made GH¢1.8 million a day on average. If you implement a policy that delivers 9%, you have failed woefully,” he further made his point,” he added

According to him (Sam George), the government’s bad performance shows how incompetent it is to ruling the economy.

“This government should have absolutely no business getting close to the management of the economy, given the abysmal performance of what was hailed as the solution to all of our problems.”
