University senior staff declare Strike Nationwide

Senior Staff of the Country’s Universities have announced a nationwide strike on Wednesday, July 13 2022 at the University of Ghana.

Members of the Senior Staff Association were being asked to go home.

The Association were crestfallen that their interest on Tier 2 has not been paid, including COLA to the demanding Teacher Unions.

At the news conference today, the General secretary of the Association, Hector Owoahene-Acheampong says, Senior Staff in the public Universities are not fairly treated. He said this was their time to also make demands and see to it that it is fulfilled.

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) decided to stop teaching until their COLA was paid.

NAGRAT and GNAT decided to not agree with any negotiations with the government because they think they think the Government has betrayed them.

The two Association said the Government betrayed their trust by asking them to call off the strike before negotiating with them.
